IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Alva"
Underwood
September 28, 1937 – February 9, 2026
William "Alva" Underwood, 88, of Omaha, passed away February 9, 2026, at home with his wife by his side. Larue Mae Underwood, 88, passed away February 22, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Married at age 19, they shared 69 years together.
Alva was born in Rock Island, IL to Doris and Ella (Anderson) Underwood. Larue was born in Galena, MO to Pete and Lucy (Johnson) Brown.
Alva worked for many years with J.H. Wagner as a licensed electrician, plumber, and HVAC technician. He also worked at the garment factory with Larue, helped build Table Rock Dam, and retired from Harrison School District. Larue worked from a young age in a canning factory and sewing quilts with her mother and grandmother. She later worked at the garment factory and served 26 years in housekeeping at NARMC, retiring as head of housekeeping in 2002.
Between running a farm, caring for cows and chickens, and keeping up with daily maintenance, they still found time for others. Their home was open to all throughout the years. When you walked through the door, you were welcomed with love, kindness, and, of course, food. Larue was the heart of the home, a devoted homemaker who always made sure you were well fed and never left without a sweet treat.
Their house was always full. Whether hosting family get-togethers or barbecues where everyone was welcome, there was always room for one more. They loved playing games with family and friends. Dominoes, Pitch, and Yahtzee were enjoyed almost daily, as they cherished the company of those around them. Alva was known for his quick wit during games and his playful, prankster spirit. He enjoyed a good laugh and made sure everyone else did too.
Alva was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and A.M. "Butch" Underwood; and sister Elnora Rife. Larue was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her siblings.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff Underwood, of Harrison, Jess (Gayla) Underwood, of Omaha, and Jim (Ashley Jo) Underwood, of Omaha; Alva's sister, Ellenger (Ben) Adams, of Omaha; eight grandchildren, Alexis (Cody) Rogers, Kendon (Whitley) Underwood, Jeffrey (Jamie) Underwood, Shayne (Chance) Thompson, Austin (Sam) Underwood, Paige (Jesse) Sanders, Ashley (Evan) Yocham, and Tapangia Underwood; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many others who were family to them over the years.
