William "Bill" Potter, age 95 of Swain, Arkansas passed away Monday, April 13, 2009 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, Arkansas.
The son of John David "Dewy" Potter and Sarah Frances (Trainer) Potter, he was born April 13, 1914 at Grey Horse, Oklahoma.
Bill grew up in Fairfax, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, he then spent 20 years serving his country in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor in 1941 when Japan dropped their bombs. He then went to Japan, where he spent 2 1/2 years. After he retired from the Navy in 1960, he and his wife, Wilma, moved to Swain in Newton County, Arkansas in early 1961, from Oklahoma. They spent the remainder of their lives, she 36 years and Bill 48 years, at their home in Swain.
Bill had worked as a farmer and loved to read. He felt education was most important, along with taking care of the earth.
His parents preceded him in death, along with his wife, Wilma, in August of 1997; two brothers and four sisters.
Bill was the youngest of seven children.
Cremation and arrangements are being handled by Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper, Arkansas.
