Obituary

William "Bill" Thomas, age 99, of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

Bill was preceded in death in by his wife of 73 years, Gertrude, in January 2021; his parents, Ruth (Miller) and Doyle Thomas of Milltown, AR; brothers, Waldo and John Thomas; baby brother, Doyle; sisters, Frances Dickson Bridges, Esther Noried Bryon, Jayne Patrick, and Edna Brooks. Bill is survived by his sister, Coretta Richards of West Plains, MO; his daughter, Donna K. (David) Copeland of Harrison; and daughter Lisa Ann Amos-Wright (Mark) of Wynne, AR; grandson, Nick Wright of Jonesboro, AR; and many loved extended family.

Bill was born in Milltown, Arkansas. After high school, he was drafted into the US Army. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 10th Mountain Division, and was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of Corporal. After completing his service, he moved to Kansas City to attend autobody repair and mechanic school; then working for Chevrolet and Buick for several years. He met Gertrude in Kansas City, and they married in 1947, and after several years, moved and made their home in Harrison around 1960. Bill worked in autobody repair for Milam Motors, then Gene Patrick Motors, retiring in 1989.

Bill always liked to keep busy, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, walking his dog, Blackie, time with family, and always happy to lend a helping hand. Bill liked to have fun with friends and family who knew him for his dry sense of humor. He also enjoyed spending time reading his Bible before his eyesight faded. He was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM followed by a graveside service with military honors at 2 PM at Gassville Cemetery in Gassville, AR. Services will be officiated by Rev. Kenneth M. DeVoie, M.Div.
