Obituary

Webster "Web" Owen Newton, Jr. passed away surrounded by his family on May 6, 2021 at Somerset Living Center.  He was 92 years old.  He was the oldest child of Web Sr. and Helen (Crump) Newton.  He graduated from Harrison High School where he joined his buddies in participating in sports.  He attended Arkansas Tech University.  While hitch hiking to one of the University's football games he received a ride to the stadium only to find out his driver was the legendary coach Paul Bear Bryant.

Web married Sue Dodson and they had 5 children and 71 years together.

Web was a Navy veteran and served on the USS Essex aircraft carrier during the Korean War.  He loved to reminisce about his Navy experiences.  On Sunday mornings his children would hear, "Revelry, revelry, all hands on deck" as he would announce it was time for breakfast.

On his return to Harrison Web joined his father in helping establish the family business of Newton's Frozen Foods later known as Newton's Processing. In his later years Web became the central Ozark figure in the buying and selling of ginseng and other native plants.

Web stayed active being an avid golfer and competing in the local and national Senior Olympics.  He was an avid Goblin and Razorback fan.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Harrison Rotary Club, and the Old Time Goblins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Newton.

He is survived by his wife Sue; sons Web "Bugs" Newton III and wife Cathi, Mark Newton and wife Tina, daughters; Karin Nabors and husband Mike, Cindy Newton and friend John Hangen, Sarah Harris and husband David. Sisters; Suzanne Warren of Little Rock and Mary Helen Schramm and husband Greg of LaGrange Park, IL, grandchildren; Kim, Cody, Steven and Faith Newton, Lauren Nabors Brown and Cary Nabors, 7 great grandchildren and a childhood friend Shorty Ozier.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 11 from 5PM – 7PM at the First Baptist Church in Harrison.  A private family memorial will be held later.
