Wallace Olen Claytor, Jr. age 85 of Jasper, AR passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Newton County Nursing Home in Jasper.
He was born July 12, 1920 in Corinth, TX a son of Wallace Olen Claytor, Sr. and Allie (Tigert) Claytor. He attended school and grew up at Cooper Creek in Denton, TX. He was a self-employed painter and drywall finisher until his retirement in 1982. Then he moved to Jasper with his wife, Minnie, to whom he married October 3, 1981 in Denton.
He was a veteran WWII having been inducted in December 1944 into the U.S. Army, serving as an Infantryman in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the Philippine Liberation. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Medal.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronnie Lee Claytor; brothers, Eldon "Son" Claytor and Bill Claytor; sister, Olen B. "Sis" Moore; and his former wife, Geraldin (Ballard) Claytor.
Survivors are his wife, Minnie Claytor of the home; sons, Shirlie Claytor of Fremont, CA, Gary Claytor and Timothy Claytor of Denton, TX, Lee'o Housden of Low Gap and James Housden of Aubrey, TX; daughters, Lela J. Minor of Ash Flat, AR and Martha Armer of Denton, TX; 22 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.
Service was at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Low Gap Full Gospel Church with Donnie Villines officiating. Military graveside to follow at Low Gap Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bob Bullington, Seth Harlan, Carl Smith, Leon Doud, Ruby Ray Carlton, and Tom Henson. Visitation was held Tuesday, February 28 at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper.
