Virginia Holsted, 86, of Alpena, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at her home. She was born September 29, 1935, at Landis, Arkansas, the oldest child of Vernon J. and Shirley Richardson Watts. She attended schools in Leslie and Marshall.
She married Grady Holsted on May 3,1952 in Archie Valley, Arkansas. They had seven children. Virginia lived on Army bases in Oklahoma and Texas while Grady served in the Army. They moved to Illinois for 21 years before returning to Arkansas in 1977.
Virginia retired from Alpena School as a teacher's aide. She served as President for the Alpena Fire Board for several years. She was a member of Alpena First Baptist Church. She loved being a Meemaw and the grandkids loved her homemade applesauce. She enjoyed trips to visit friends and family.
She was proceeded in death by husband Grady, parents Vernon and Shirley Watts, and a brother Duane Watts.
She is survived by four sons, David Holsted, Harrison; Doyle Holsted, Alpena; Dale (Jill) Holsted, Harrison; and Dean Holsted of Alpena; three daughters, Carolyn (Sam) Macheak of Little Rock; Melinda (Eddie) Keeton of Alpena; and Holly (Roger) Grisham of Alpena; four sisters, Kathy Culberson of Pana, Illinois; Wanda Lupton of Smackover, Arkansas; Margaret Ingle of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; and Joyce Roberts of Mansfield, Illinois; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Holsted, Autum Davis, Ben Holsted, Jon Holsted, Ross Macheak, Britt Keeton, Erin Thompson, Jessica Holsted, Corey Holsted, Trey Grisham, and Faith Lehr; 10 great-grandchildren and one expected in December; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, Aug.21 at Coffman Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, Aug.22 at Coffman's at 10 a.m. with burial in Alpena Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Wes Cantwell.
Pallbearers will be Britt Keeton, Ben Thompson, Trey Grisham, Austin Lehr, Corey Holsted, and Jon Holsted.
