Vernon L. Williams, age 76 of Fayetteville, Arkansas left his earthly home to go to his heavenly home, Monday, August 11, 2008.
He spent most of his life in Arkansas. He was born in Snowball and lived there and in Searcy and Boone Counties except for his time in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict with the 76th Armored Division and 9 and 1/2 years in northern California where he graded lumber for Simpson Timber Company. After moving back to Arkansas, he spent time hanging sheetrock, then worked for St. Joe Public Schools as a maintenance engineer, study hall monitor, and bus driver for over 30 years.
Vernon was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and his favorite pastime was cooking the fish he and his friends caught in the Buffalo National River.
He was preceded in death by his father, James L. "Lonnie" Williams and his mother, Susan (Robertson) Williams; two half-brothers, Dolphard Williams and Earl Williams; and two half-sisters, Alma Rainbolt and Blanch Rainbolt.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Myra Williams; a son, James Williams and his wife, Kay of Western Grove; a daughter, Sylvia Scott and son-in-law, John Knight of Fayetteville; a grandson, Randall Williams and his wife, Amanda of Russellville; a granddaughter, Michelle Bradley and her husband, William of Western Grove; two great granddaughters, Julia Hill and Deanna Bradley; sisters, Virginia Sutterfield of Marshall and Vernell LaVance of Lewiston, ID; brothers, Joe Dale Williams of Marshall and Donald Gene Williams of Morning Star; along with many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There was a memorial service and celebration of his life Friday, August 15, 2008 at Western Grove Bible Church, Hwy 65, Western Grove, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials in Vernon's memory be made to Western Grove Bible Church, c/o Pastor Dennis Sisco, Western Grove, Arkansas.
