Obituary

Verlin G. Smith, age 92 of Harrison, AR passed away Friday, March 17, 2006 at his home.

He was born July 11, 1913 at Vendor, AR a son of William E. and Mary "Willie" (Flood) Smith.

Verlin had lived his life in Newton and Boone Counties and was a member of Batavia Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed playing the banjo and singing blue grass music. He spent his early years working in the timber industry and then worked at Alpena School as a janitor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith Smith; four sisters; six brothers; and a granddaughter, Katherine Marie Smith.

Survivors are his children, Bill R. Smith and wife, Avalee, Charles K. Smith and wife, Shirley, Sharon K. Rogers and husband, Lonnie, and Gary D. Smith and wife, Wanda all of Alpena, and Ronnie J. Smith and wife, Rebecca of Harrison; brother, Herman Smith of Kansas City, MO; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service were held March 20th, 2006 at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison with Rev. Tollie Sutterfield officiating. Burial was in Carrollton Cemetery at Carrollton, AR. Pallbearers were Cory J. Smith, Bron L. Rogers, Todd L. Rogers, Chad N. Rogers, Kevin R. Smith, Derick Dickard, and Dustin Dickard. Honorary pallbearers were Shane Hensley, Dale Franklin, Donavan Burch, Mike Campbell, Danny Dickard, Eric Toliver, and Lloyd VanWinkle.
