Bernice Vanderpool, age 78 of Jasper, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.
She was born August 4, 1930 at McElroy Gap in Newton County, the daughter of Oliver Edward and Ola Gertrude (Shatswell) Holt.
She had worked as a cook for Camp Orr Boy Scout Camp and Jasper School. She had also worked at the nursing home as a nurses aide. Bernice was a lifetime resident of Newton County and a member of the Jasper Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James F. Vanderpool; a son, Harold Ray Vanderpool and a brother, Leon Holt.
Survivors are her son, Eddie Vanderpool of Jasper; a step-daughter, Frances Spurgeon of K. C., MO; one brother, Clinton Holt of Danville, AR; two sisters, Louise Wells of Dover, AR and Jean Cummings of Clarksville, AR; five grandchilden: 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Tuesday, February 10, 2009 with the service Wednesday, February 11, 2009, both at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper. Burial followed at Crossroads Cemetery at Deer.
Bro. Troy Walker officiated.
Pallbearers were Justin Vanderpool, Randy Wells, Kevin Wells, Jimmy Craig, Johnny Vanderpool, and Doyle McCann. Honorary pallbearers are Gerald James, Clint Brown, Joseph Carter, Jake Carter, Phillip Vanderpool and Ronnie Chasteen.
