On September 18, 2018, Velma Martin peacefully took the hand of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as she made her joyful journey Home.
She had looked forward to that moment with eager anticipation her entire life and was reunited once again with her husband, Biner Martin; her parents, Felix and Stella (Daniels) Flud; four brothers, Sanford Flud, Lee Flud, Freddie Flud, Clinton ("Tinker") Flud; and four sisters, Thelma Flud, Ardith Ricketts, Nelda Greenhaw, and Susie Campbell.
Velma has only temporarily left behind eight children with whom she will joyously be reunited again: Buck (Jane) Martin of Western Grove, AR; Rex Martin of Western Grove, AR; Cookie( Ed) Gay of Harrison, AR; Mike (Evelyn) Martin of Western Grove; Morna (Ricky) Stone, of Harrison; Lisa (Rod) O'Neal, of Harrison; Stella (David) Maberry, of Harrison; and Jack Martin, of Ft. Smith, AR; and one sister Zeola (Bob) Yeager of Clarksville. She also looks forward to seeing her 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grand children, and 15 great-great grandchildren again as she commonly stated with confidence that "All of her household will be saved."
Velma was born on January 19, 1929, in Pindall, Arkansas, as the oldest of 10 children. Soon after she married on July 19, 1946, she and her husband, Biner, began their family of eight children and they worked very hard to make sure they were loved and had their needs met. Velma retired from Emerson Electric Company and then became a certified caregiver, continuing her legacy of "taking care of others" well into her late 70's.
Velma enjoyed many things, but her passion in this life was telling others about Jesus, having church in her home, hosting visiting evangelists, and being with her family.
Other than loving her children, two of her greatest accomplishments were establishing churches in communities where people could come and learn about the Lord.
She used her life to spread the love and hope of Jesus Christ, and she leaves a beautiful legacy that will never be forgotten. One of Velma's favorite verses that was printed on her walls and engraved on the hearts of everyone she met is to "call those things that are not as though they were." —Romans 4:17
Velma's visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison, Arkansas from 6:00-8:00 PM. Her celebration of life service will be held at Coffman Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 22, 2018 with Rev. Ricky Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Vendor.
