Marion Thomas "Tom" Dickey, age 81 of Everton, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, June 25 (2024) at Creekside at the Springs of Yellville.
The son of Robert Morgan Dickey and Anna Syntha (Threet) Dickey was born March 7, 1943 at Emedy, Arkansas, near Clear Creek in Marion County.
Tom spent most of his life in Marion County and graduated from Bruno High School in 1961. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his time in the service, he was an aircraft mechanic, stationed in Roswell, New Mexico. He served in the Strategic Air Command that worked specifically on B52's. He was honorably discharged after 4 years of enlistment.
After his time in the military, he married Mary Nell Scroggins on July 30, 1967. Together they raised 2 children, Scot and Judy. They enjoyed traveling out west together, especially New Mexico and going to the Hot Air Balloon Festival.
Tom started a beef cattle farm in Marion County in the late 1960's. He worked the farm for over 55 years, and never really stopped running the farm, even after Scot took over. He was a good mechanic and could fix anything. Tom enjoyed going to the truck stop to drink coffee and visit with his friends. He loved to spend time with his grandkids and tell stories, even if that meant he was trying to pull one over on you. He was loved by his family and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Dickey in 2007; and two brothers-in-law, Ray Paul and Waylon Duvall.
Tom is survived by his two children, Scot Dickey (Deann) and Judy Shuler (Todd); three siblings, Lois June Paul, Mary Alice Duvall, and Robert Dickey (Shirley); three grandchildren, Ethan Dickey, Caden Dickey, and Caleb Shuler; a special brother-in-law, Jerry Scroggins; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many dear friends.
A celebration of life visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9 (2024) at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison from 5 PM to 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Anderson Flat Cemetery Fund, C/O Brenda Morris, 3482 Hwy 235, St. Joe, AR, 72675.
