IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas "Tom"
Young
September 6, 1931 – June 4, 2025
Thomas Albert "Tom" Young, age 93, joined his beloved wife in the arms of Jesus on June 4, 2025.
The son of Barry and Cora (Tomlinson) Young was born in Harrison on September 6, 1931. He lived in Boone County most of his life and attended CrossRoads Community Church.
Tom was no stranger to hard work. During the short time he lived in California, he worked for the forestry service. The rest of his working years were spent working and driving a truck for Mass Merchandisers and operating heavy equipment. He has cleaned out many ponds in Boone County and cleared countless acres of land, including the site where CrossRoads Church currently sits.
In his younger years, he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Tom was quite fond of his favorite mule, Applejack, and frequently spoke of projects for Applejack to help with. He planted many vegetable gardens and was a whiz in the kitchen. Everyone loved Tom's hot rolls and pies, just not the mess he left behind.
Tom loved his family and was a devoted husband to his wife of 68 years, Verda, until her passing June 12, 2024. Together they raised a family that understood the value of loyalty and devotion that will be passed on for generations. He was proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and treasured having them around.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verda Maxine (Goats) Young; a son, Butch Hankins; grandson, Quentin Hankins; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hankins; siblings, Doyle Young, Stella Hudson, Freida Hudson, Willadean Chatterton, Gary Young, Terry Young, and Larry Young.
Tom is survived by his children, Mel Hankins, Mike Hankins and wife Dorinda, Judy Gerdes and husband Mike, and Mitchell Young and wife Freda; daughter-in-law, Sharon Hankins; 11 grandchildren, Necie, Cindy, Cheryl, Candice, Brad, Angela, Nikki, Carrie, Joey, Mitchell Thomas "M.T.", and Mallory; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; siblings, Sherry Jones, Perry Young, Harry Young, and Jerry Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM both on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison. Pastor Johnny Walters will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Mike Hankins, Joey Hankins, Mitchell Young, M.T. Young, Mel Hankins, Brad Hankins, and Mike Gerdes.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to CrossRoads Community Church, 2658 Old Bergman Rd., Harrison, AR, 72601.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the nurses and staff of Hillcrest Nursing Home, especially those in Crestview Wing for the loving and compassionate care given to Tom and his family over the years.
