Obituary

Thursday, September 20, 2007, Thersia Slack Jones, age 84 of Harrison, passed away at her son's residence in Norman, Oklahoma. The daughter of James Rufus and Montie Mae (Abel) Dees, was born October 7, 1922 near Bellefonte, Arkansas.

She was a graduate of Bellefonte High School, then moved to Kansas City, where she worked for North American Aviation, helping build the B25 Fighter Bombers and then worked for Bell Telephone Company as a long distance operator. She married Charles Slack on May 29, 1943 and moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma in Sept. 1950.After his passing on July 23, 1988, she continued her residence there until 1993, when she married Marvin Jones and moved to his residence in Olvey. After his passing later that year, she established her home in Harrison.

She was a strong person in her faith and an inspiration to her family and friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Edith Martin Circle where she attended faithfully while her health permitted.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands; one sister, Agnes Jones and one brother, James Frank Dees.

Survivors are her son, Jim Slack and his wife, Terri; two grandchildren, Brian Slack and his wife, Duranda and Tammy Slack and her fiance`, Jared Cox; two great grandchildren, Mariah and Maci Slack all of Oklahoma. She was a loving "Aunt/Mom" to Gwen (Jones) Bowen and husband,Don of Richardson, Texas, Marvis (Jones) Paul and husband, Joey, and Jerry Jones and wife, Bonnie all of Harrison; their children and grand
children; two brothers, Meredith Dees of Broken Arrow, OK, and Lowell Dees of Harrison; three sisters, Alpha Keeter, Charlene Cunningham and Marilyn Jarrett all of Harrison; and many special nieces and nephews.

Memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel. Her cremains will be placed by her husband, Charles Slack, at Resthaven Cemetery in Ponca City, OK.

Pastor John Darnall and her cousin, Robert Shaddox officiated the service.

Thersia's family would like to express their gratitude to her many loved ones for all the cards, calls, and notes sent to her and the many prayers in her behalf. They were a special blessing to her.

Cremation and arrangements were handled by Coffman Funeral Home.
