Obituary

Teresa Marlene Barstow, age 61 of Valley Springs, Arkansas passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at her home.

The daughter of Bob and Evelyn (Yarusinsky) Hanson was born December 24, 1952 in Danville, Illinois.

Teresa moved to the Ozarks when she was 25 years old to be closer to her sister, Marianne and her family. She studied nursing and after completing her schooling locally, started working at the Boone County Hospital (North Arkansas Regional Medical Center) in obstetrics.

Teresa pursued her work passionately and had an amazing gift of helping women during childbirth. She worked as a OB nurse at the hospital from 1981 until she retired from the OB department in 2002.

During this time period, she married Scott Barstow on October 18, 1986 in Southport, N.C. Their wonderful daughter, Bethany was born March 21, 1987.

Throughout her professional career, she was beloved by patients and co-workers because of her passion and dedication to the mothers and babies. She was also the funniest person on the OB floor and entertained the staff with her hilarious pranks and antics. Besides assisting with labor and delivery, she also taught childbirth classes and breast-feeding education.

Teresa's favorite pastime activities were boating, floating and fishing with her friends and family on the Buffalo River. She traveled extensively, exploring the natural beauty of the world and especially enjoyed the oceans and beaches. Her other greatest passion was spending time with her daughter and her precious grandbaby, Bria.

Teresa is survived by her husband, Scott Barstow; daughter, Bethany McClain; granddaughter, Bria Hanson; brothers-in-law, Doug Glascock and Bob Stickrod; sister-in-law, Carol Stockrod; nieces, Rainbow Russell, Michelle Knapp and Sarah Peasley; and nephews, Ransom Russell and Denver Stickrod.

Celebration of Life service will be 2 P.M. Saturday, March, 1, 2014 at the Gilbert gravel bar. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Gilbert Church.

A potluck dinner will continue afterwards at the Barstow house from 4 to 6 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of the Hills, P.O. Box 1927, Harrison, Arkansas 72602 or to your favorite charity.
