John Steven "Steve" Wood, of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas at the age of 59.
The son of John W. "Bill" and Margaret (Hendrix) Wood was born December 19, 1957 in Memphis, TN.
He was a resident of Harrison most of his life, graduating from Harrison High School in 1976. He attended Northwood University in Midland, Michigan where he received his automotive marketing and management degrees. He and his father and brother built and ran several local businesses. His father started Bill Wood Chevrolet in 1971 and the name changed to Wood Motor Company in 1984 after they added Nissan. In 1991, the family started Wood Development, Inc., where they were instrumental in local commercial real estate development and hospitality services, and they own and operate Quality Inn, Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn.
Steve enjoyed traveling, photography, architecture and construction projects. He was also an avid outdoorsman, spending time kayaking, four-wheeling, White River rafting and sport fishing.
He was looking forward to welcoming his first granddaughter into the world in a few weeks.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Steve is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica (Wood) and Chip Johnson of Dallas, TX; his step-daughter, Lacey Beauchamp of Fayetteville, AR; his brother, Phillip Wood of Harrison and a granddaughter, Margaret Grace Johnson and many other relatives, friends and co-workers who loved him and will miss him.
Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 27 at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison with Pastor Heath Kirkpatrick officiating. Graveside services are immediately following at Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday, January 26 at the funeral home.
