Sterlin O. Henderson, of Wayton, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at his home.  He was 88 years old.

The son of Lark and Delphia Henderson was born on January 23, 1935 in Wayton, Arkansas.

Sterlin was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1958-1960 and was also a medic in the Army.  He worked as a carpenter and in construction.

Sterlin was considered the "Wise Old Man" of the mountain.  You could ask him a question about anything, and he would be able to tell you the story and the history behind it.  All of his family and friends loved listening to him tell stories of the past and "the way it was". He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing music with his family.

Sterlin was a very nice and patient man. Besides having a lot of family, he also had a lot of friends. They would come to his house to visit with him.  They left his house with good knowledge and tons of information.

Sterlin will forever remain in our hearts.  Rest in peace.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lark and Delphia Henderson; siblings, Inez Murray (Arthur), Elewee Taylor (Remmel), Eugene Henderson (Beverly), and Gerald Henderson (Donna); half siblings, Virgie Henderson (Wayne), Robert Henderson (Faye), Euretta Casey (Loyal), Eileene Waters (Roy), Olen Henderson (Mildred), Otis Henderson (Lura), and Elva Casey (Lester); nephews and nieces, Donnie Murray (Ruth), Jimmy Taylor, Robert W. Harrison, Roy Earl Henderson, Mary Lou Ham, Glenda Casey (Chester Wayne), Garnet Henderson, Sonny J. Henderson (Faye), Betty V. Casey Dixon, Patricia Varner, Wallace G. Waters (Rita), and Leon Clayton L.C. Casey (Betty).

Survivors include his nephews and nieces, Steve Henderson (Doris), David Henderson (Pam), Larry Henderson (Linda), Randall Henderson, Patrick Henderson (Tamara), Sheila Henderson Day (Dino), Freddie Waters (Bessy), Teddy Waters (Wilma), Eddie Taylor (Phyllis), Michael Taylor (Andria), Carla Bishop (Rick), Ronnie Casey (Mary), Curtis Casey (Katherine), Shirley Taylor (Joe), and Barbara Isaac (Virgil); and many other great nephews and great nieces.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Coffman Funeral Home of Jasper.

Funeral service is Friday, December 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper.  Burial will be at Wayton Cemetery.  Pastor Tony Taylor will officiate.  Pallbearers are Steve Henderson, Tyler Henderson, Brock Henderson, Patrick Henderson, Dakota Henderson, Cody Waters, and Bradley Waters.  Honorary pallbearers include Teddy Waters, Freddie Waters, Ricky Waters, Ronald Waters, Michael Taylor, Eddie Taylor, Ronnie Casey, and Gilmer Jeane.
