Stanford Paschal Smith, of Western Grove, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 27, 2025.  He was 92 years old.

The son of Howard and Frances (Paschal) Smith was born on August 24, 1933 in St. Charles, Illinois.

Stanford was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  In his younger days, Stanford was an all-around athlete and was featured in several different Chicago area newspapers as "Athlete of the Year".  Stanford's baseball career took off, and he was selected to play for the St. Louis Browns, a team that was originally the Milwaukee Brewers and in 1953 they moved to Baltimore, Maryland and became the Baltimore Orioles.  Stanford's career ended early due to an injury he obtained serving in the U.S. Army.  His love for the game remained lifelong and his athletic spirit instilled a hardworking and determined attitude that he maintained throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Gary Smith; and one sister, Corrine (Smith) Carlson.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Carolyn (Hill) Smith; three children, Kerrie, Kyle, and Spencer Smith; 12 grandchildren, Kassie McKiness Mares, Rebecca McKiness Storch, Kristen McKiness, Sarah Smith, Matthew Smith, Rose Smith Marion, Mason Sampson Smith, Carolyn Smith, Kenneth Smith, Jacob Smith, Steven Smith, and Greta Smith; and seven great grandchildren.

Graveside service is Friday, November 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Sand Hill Cemetery in Yardelle.
