Sidney Jewell Thomason, age 84 of Harrison, Arkansas passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 at Hospice of the Hills Hospice House in Harrison after a courageous battle with emphysema and lung cancer. We rejoice that he is with his Savior Jesus Christ and his loved ones who have gone before him.
The son of Sidney and Virgie (Eastham) Thomason was born May 22, 1927 in Webb City, Oklahoma. He grew up in Carrollton and left Boone County after high school graduation. After living in Oklahoma and Colorado for many years he retired back to Boone County in 1991, where he was actively involved in grassroots Republican politics and he enjoyed his morning coffee group at Big Daddy's. His grandchildren visited every summer and he loved planning their activities.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Ruth (Rushing) Thomason; a daughter, Virginia Lee Barnes; a grandson, Jared David Barnes; a brother, Russell Dean Thomason; his parents; his mother, Gladys (Kindall) Thomason; his infant sister, Tenna Gene Thomason; and his grandparents, Harmon and Mary Alice (Grogan) Thomason and Alfred and Bessie (Presley) Kindall.
Sid is survived by two daughters and their families, Jewel Dean Ainsworth and husband Dan of Canon City, Colorado and Brenda Sue Rush and husband Steve of Harrison. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Samuel J. Raplee, Sarah Joan Raplee and Logan Dewey Barnes of Denver, Colorado, Susan Jennifer Raplee of Canon City, Colorado, Annabel Ruth Barnes of Greeley, Colorado and Abigail Sydney and Ella Grace Rush of Harrison; sisters-in-law, Ina Thomason, Anna Lee Taylor, Gladys Rushing, Lillian Rushing, and Treva Rushing; loving nephews and nieces; sister, Shirley Arlene Hill of Harrison; and brother, Bobby Scott Thomason of Overland Park, Kansas.
Visitation was Tuesday, November 22, 2011 with funeral service Wednesday, November 23, 2011, both at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison. Mike Moore will officiate.
Burial followed in Maplewood Cemetery with pallbearers being William Thomason, Wayne Estes, Cecil Frost, Jerry Taylor, Mike Norton, and Richard Rushing.
Special ladies who cared for Sid in the last weeks of his life on earth, loving on him and his family are April White, Sheila Patience and Ervalee Moore and at the Hospice House were Trudy Armstrong, Terrie Shekels, and the nurses and aides who provided excellent care and attended his death with loving respect and dignity.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Hospice House, 501 E. Sherman, Harrison, Arkansas 72601.
