Obituary

Shirley Annette McDonald, 88, of Jasper, formerly of Harrison, passed away Wednesday, April 10 (2024) at Countryside Nursing and Rehab of Newton County in Jasper.

Shirley was born on March 16, 1936, at the John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Daniel Price and Emma Louise (LaFaivre) Creely. Shirley was the second of four sisters.

Shirley married George Aubrey McDonald in 1967 and in 1975 the couple moved to the Harrison area with their three young children. Shirley had one daughter from a previous marriage and gained four stepchildren after her marriage to George, who passed away in 1987.

Shirley worked in retail from the time of her graduation from Memphis Southside High School in 1954 until the birth of her three youngest children. After moving to Arkansas, she was a homemaker until the passing of her husband when she returned to the workforce as she was the cook at the Kids Korner Daycare for many years before eventually working for and retiring from North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in 1998.

Shirley had various interests, including working on the family history, but her main hobby was her grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband George; her parents, Daniel Price and Emma Louise; her stepfather, Edwin Sandridge two sisters, Joan Ashby and Carolyn Wright; and stepdaughter, Florence Lawrence.

Shirley is survived by her youngest sister Mary (Jimmy) Pegram of Holly Springs, Miss.; a son, Scott McDonald of Harrison; three daughters, Becky Campbell (Ernie) of Olive Branch, Miss., Kim (Mike) Eddings of Hasty and Cheryl (Larry) Henson of Mount Judea; and seven grandchildren, Nicholas Campbell of Olive Branch, Miss., Hailey (Landon) Smith of Hasty, Logan (Carley) Henson of Harrison, Zach Eddings of Hasty, Jacob Eddings of Hasty, Christina Moore of Mountain View and Katey Henson of Mount Judea. Shirley is also survived by stepchildren Martha Carman of Memphis, Barry McDonald of Memphis and Dair Kimball of Jacksonville, Fla.; nieces, Nicole (Grant) Gist and Susan Wright; and by nine step-grandchildren and 17 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 15 (2024) at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison with Pastor Andrew Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Carver Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Sunday, April 14 (2024) at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.

Pallbearers will be Shirley's four grandsons — Nicholas, Logan, Zach and Jacob — and her grandson-in-law Landon.

Honorary pallbearers are all of her grandchildren, Kim Luper and the staff at Countryside Nursing and Rehab of Newton County.
