Obituary

Sarah Evelyn Jeffrey passed from this life on October 25, 2011 after a brief illness. She spent her final days in the care of Hospice of the Hills, her family and friends.

Sarah was born on September 11, 1928 in Jeanerette, LA. She received her degree in Home Economics from Bell Haven College in Jackson, MS and was a graduate of Jeanerette High School. Sarah taught Special Education in New Jersey for many years. Sarah was actively involved with several local clubs and was a volunteer for the Newton County Library.

Sarah is survived by her brothers, Robert William Jeffrey, Jr. and Daniel McDonald Jeffrey, her sister, Martha Edwards, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved dogs, Ewok, Heidi and Carbon.

A pioneer in many ways, she spent her life in the pursuit of knowledge. Among her many talents, Sarah was a weaver, naturalist, carver, painter and collector of books. She loved gardening, especially tending to her unique succulents. She traveled the world in search of a home, finding it here in Newton County thirty-five years ago.

A special celebration of her life was held Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the home of Steve and Joan Miller near her home by the Buffalo National River Park with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Hills in Harrison will be gladly accepted in honor of her life.
