Sandy Saxon, 59, of Harrison passed away on August 1, 2016 after a long battle with cancer, comforted by her children and her beloved companion dog at Hospice of the Hills in Harrison.
Sandy was born on August 22, 1956 and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Valley Springs High School in 1974 and went on to obtain her licensed practical nursing certificate from Twin Lake Vocational-Technical School in 1975. She married the love of her life, Ken, that same year. They had two wonderful children and enjoyed a happy and loving marriage for 38 years at their home on Gaither Mountain. She was a loving wife and mother and was a talented nurse, baker and seamstress. She was a caring mother figure to countless children who crossed her path during her life. Her favorite title was "Nana," as she was called by her two grandchildren.
Sandy was a member of Crossroads Community Church and volunteered her time and talents to her church and to Hospice whenever she was able to. She was active in online support groups for Syringomyelia/Chiari Malformation and cancer. She was a mentor and an inspiration to other patients who shared her painful diagnosis.
Sandy is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Ken, her parents, Rufus and Louise Allen of Valley Springs, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Vinita Saxon of Harrison. She is survived by her daughter and son-in law, April and Brian Hickman of North Little Rock and her son Jon Saxon of Harrison. She left behind two treasured grandchildren, Jayna Murphy of North Little Rock and Stephen Hickman of Gassville.
