IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra Hudspeth
Reynolds
March 28, 1937 – December 8, 2024
Sandra Hudspeth Reynolds, 87, retail businesswoman and civic leader, passed away on December 8, 2024. Sandra was born on March 28, 1937, in Marshall, Arkansas, the oldest child of Verl and Burnelle (Treece) Hudspeth. Verl was stationed in San Diego, CA in the US Navy early in Sandra's life and her mother drove her and her sister Charlotte across the country to join him. Her mother wasn't able to enroll Sandra in school, so she sent Sandra with a note, and she enrolled herself in 1st Grade at San Diego Public School. After Verl's military service, the family moved back to Arkansas where they settled in Harrison.
Sandra grew up in Harrison, Arkansas and was educated at Harrison High School graduating in 1955. Sandra attended the University of Arkansas until 1957. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority during her college years. While at the University of Arkansas, she met and married Robert "Bob" A Reynolds. Married in September 1957, the couple moved to Springfield, Missouri. They moved back to Harrison to co-own and manage Walters Department Store on the downtown square with her father, the late Verl Hudspeth, the late Ben C Henley, and his son, the late Ben N Henley. Sandra and her husband purchased the business outright in the early 1980s and continued ownership until selling to Lefler's in the early 2000s.
Sandra was a Master Gardener, planted beautiful flowers at her home each year, enjoyed cooking, excelled at leading groups and was an avid reader. She had an entrepreneurial spirit, and she and Bob opened and managed many small businesses in the area. She enjoyed swimming and was a Red Cross Lifesaving Swim Instructor for many years. Sandra also had a close-knit group of school friends calling themselves The Old Gang socializing and taking many trips together. She and Bob loved to spend spare time with friends and family floating or camping on and around the Buffalo, as well as much time at the Holiday House on Bull Shoals Lake at Diamond City.
Sandra was a Girl Scout Troop leader, member and Past President of the Harrison Noon Lions Club. She served as Chairman, Harrison Chamber of Commerce; First Christian Church Board Deacon and Elder; Boone County Library Board Member; Garden Club Member, and Member of PEO. She and Bob were instrumental in establishing Harrison as a Main Street Arkansas Town, an early downtown revitalization program. Then Governor Bill Clinton awarded the designation to the city in 1984. In the early 2000's she served a 5-year term on the Boone County Regional Airport Board including a time as Chairwoman. During her term, she was instrumental in the airport receiving Outstanding Arkansas Airport from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Sandra was honored to be chosen as one of the first Women of Distinction in Boone County. She and Bob both impressed upon their family the importance of education, being active in and giving back to your community.
Sandra was predeceased by her parents, one brother, J Barton "Bart" Hudspeth, daughter-in-law, Jackie Green Reynolds and her husband of 65 years, Bob. She is survived by her children, son, Mike Reynolds; daughter, Holly Gillies; son, Chris Reynolds and his wife, Tammy; daughter, Sarah Gheen and her husband, Jon. She is also survived by her sister Charlotte (Hudspeth) and her husband Jim Gadberry and her sister-in-law Kathi (Grizzle) Hudspeth; her grandchildren, Bourgon Reynolds and her husband Dr. Brad Meredith; Christian and Alexander Gillies; August, Zoe, and Ella Kate Reynolds; Meredith, Grace, and Jack Gheen.
