Samuel Athel Jones, age 86 of Western Grove, Arkansas passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Harrison, Arkansas.

The son of James Boyd and Nellie (Robinson) Jones was born July 24, 1929 at Yardelle, Arkansas.

He was born and raised in Yardelle, attending high school at Western Grove. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in the Korean War. He spent many years in California and Arizona, working as a supervisor for the Santa Fe Railroad. His ambition was always to retire and move back to Arkansas. In 1984 he and his wife, Leita moved from Winslow, Arizona to Arkansas to spend their time camping with friends. Athel also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and attending church at Yardelle Chapel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leita (Hurst) Jones on September 4, 2014; and two brothers, Dorvin and Arlin Jones.

Athel is survived by his son Wayne Jones and wife Kelly of Taylor, Arizona; their children, Dallas Jones of Phoenix, Arizona; Ryan Jones and wife Alyssia of Salt Lake City, Utah; Jared Jones and wife Courtney of Arnaudville, Louisiana; Veronica Wiley and husband Michael of Taylor, Arizona; his sister, Mavis Eddings and husband Ralph of Kansas City, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Willie Jones of Harrison, Arkansas; 12 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends who will mourn his passing.

Services will be Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Yardelle Chapel with Bro. Derwin Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jared Jones, Ron Lee, Kim Wheeler, Keith Wheeler, Jared Wheeler and Carl Wells.

Honorary Pallbearers are Dallas Jones, Ryan Jones, Michael Wiley and Dr. Tom Leslie.

Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at Yardelle Chapel.
