Obituary

Ruby Finley, age 95 of Jasper, AR passed away Saturday, April 7, 2007 at her home in Jasper.

The daughter of Gergan and Lucille Freer, was born March 1, 1912 in Nettleton, AR.

As a young girl, she had lived for several years in Toledo, OH, before returning to Arkansas, where she married Herschell Finley in July of 1931. After WWII the couple lived in Little Rock and Pine Bluff, before moving to Wichita, KS,where they lived for several years. They returned to Arkansas in 1971.
They built a home near Jasper and resided there until Herschell's death in 1977. Ruby then moved to The Grandview Apartments, in 1999.
Ruby has been active in her community, where she served as a board member of Newton County Special Services for 10 years. she also served on the board of Jasper United Methodist Church and was active in United Methodist Women, and as a choir member. She was a long-standing member of the Dogwood Dames and Smith Mountain EHC's.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and David Miller, of Alameda, CA; her son and daughter-in-law, Herschell "Butch" Finley, Jr. and Cindy Finley, of Eureka Springs; seven grandchildren, Joe Finley and Sheri Vest, both of Manhattan, KS, Josh Finley, of Stillwater, OK, Adam Finley, of Fayetteville, Alexandria Thomas, and Anna and Alena Finley, all of Killeen, TX; six great grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.

Celebration of Life Service was held at 7 P.M. Monday, April 9 in the Jasper United Methodist Church with Larry Acton officiating. Private burial and graveside service is being held Tuesday, April 10 at Jasper Cemetery.
