James (Ross) Potter, age 83 of Valley Springs passed away July 6, 2022. He was born May 24, 1939 in Valley Springs to Ben and Hazel (Potts) Potter.
During his early years he helped his dad pick up milk at local farms, drove the bookmobile for the Boone County Library, drove an oil truck for Lion Oil Co., and built custom made stock racks for pickups. But in recent years, he was known to most as a cattle hauler.
Ross was a member of the "Liar's Club", which met most mornings. He loved family gatherings and the good meal that usually came with those gatherings.
Ross is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Hazel, brothers, Don and Freddy, a sister-in-law, Shirley, a nephew, Colton, and special friend Eva Martin.
He is survived by a brother, Jerry Potter and his wife Phyllis of Ocala, Florida; sisters, Mava Barney and her husband Gary of Carmel, Indiana and Connie Bell of Ozark, Missouri; sister-in-law, Fern Potter of Columbia, South Carolina; nephews, Shawn Potter and his wife Sylvia, Brad Potter and his wife Michelle, Jeff Potter; nieces, Susan Thompson and husband Doug, Kim Edwards and husband Randy, Becky Patrick and husband Doug, Tracy Barney, Cathy Patane and husband Dan, Cindy Seitel and husband Scott, Jamea Long and husband Casey, Melody Alexander and husband Dave, Mandy Gillis and husband Andy; 21 great- nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tim Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Western Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Pallbearers are Shawn Potter, Brad Potter, Ben Thompson, Chase Edwards, Tel Potter, and Ty Potter.
Honorary pallbearers are Randy Edwards, Doug Thompson, Hunter Barnard, Ethan Carter, Will Norton, Jim Kimes, Randy Kimes, Donnie White, Jackie Inman, and members of the "Liar's Club".
The family would like to express their appreciation to the nursing staff of Springs of Harrison for the loving care they provided Ross for the last few months.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Colton Edwards Memorial Scholarship Fund, ℅ Valley Springs School, P. O. Box 640, Valley Springs, AR 72682.
