Obituary

After an all-too-brief struggle with ALS, Ronald Allen Pierce peacefully exited this life to be with the Lord on April 26, 2022, at his home of 24 years in Van Buren, Arkansas.  A graduate of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas, Ron spent his entire 36-year teaching career at Hackett High School in Hackett, Arkansas, where he was a very successful and much beloved math teacher, mentor, and friend to his students and fellow educators.

A brilliant teacher, Ron was a nurturing, compassionate, witty instructor who guided many students to success in national norm testing as well as in their ultimate career paths.  He was well known for the creation of "Bonus Man", a stick figure character who, along with his pal "Roostie", appeared in the bonus questions of almost every math test Mr. Pierce ever gave.

Aside from his professional life, Ron was an accomplished athlete, having won many basketball awards in high school, and he was a dedicated sports fan and loyal Arkansas Razorback fan throughout life. Over the years, he also displayed considerable talent in playing pool, Wii bowling and Wii golf.

Ron meant so much to so many.  Known for his intelligence, unique wit, generosity, kindness, and protective nature, Ron was deeply loved by his family and friends, as well as his students, and he will be profoundly missed.

Ron leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Nancy Guthrie Pierce, one son, Eric James Pierce of Moore, Oklahoma; one daughter, Fallon Kortum and husband Dennis of Fort Smith, Arkansas; as well as two brothers, James Herbert Pierce and wife Joan of Lead Hill, Arkansas; Dwight Pierce of Mt. Judea, Arkansas; two sisters, Vicki Pierce Finch and husband Bernie of Mt. Judea, Arkansas; and Nancy "Sue" Pierce Moore and husband Donald of Lead Hill, Arkansas.  He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Pierce, and his mother, Wanda McGowan Pierce.

Funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Monday, May 2, 2022 at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Jasper with Roger Greenhaw officiating.  Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Vendor.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 PM - 4 PM at the funeral home.
