Obituary

Richard Eugene Murray, age 72 of Diamond City, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, November 31, 2016 in Diamond City.

The son of Eugene F. and Anna M. (Buchanan) Murray was born on December 31, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey.

Richard joined the United States Navy in July of 1962 and proudly served 21 years. He completed tours of duty aboard the USS JOHN R CRAIG, San Diego, CA; the USS UHLMAN, San Diego; River Section 542, Vietnam; USS NEWMAN K PERRY, Newport Rhode Island; Development Assisting Training Center, San Diego; and the USS DUBUQUE, San Diego.

Decorations earned by Richard during his career include the Bronze star with V; medals for National Defense, Combat Action and Vietnam Service; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; and awards for Navy Achievement, Good Conduct (4), and Expert Pistol and Rifle.

After his Navy career, he devoted much of his time and effort toward the Diamond City Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as an engineer on the fire truck and was a past President of the Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin sister, Kathy Snell.

He is survived by his Companion, Sandra Martin of Diamond City; his son, Richard Murray and wife Keisha of Atlanta, Georgia; Sandra's children, Steve Martin and wife Peggy of Yellville, Arkansas; Lori Nowobielski and husband Rick of Springfield, Missouri, Ronald Martin and wife Stephanie of Springfield, Missouri and Dennis "J.R." Martin and wife Kim of Oklahoma; a brother-in-law, Ron Snell of Delaware; 2 grandchildren, Karmen Murray and Courtlin Murray; Sandra's grandchildren, Chance Martin, Kyle Nowobielski, Nichole Nowobielski, Taylor "Bingo" Martin, Cody Martin, Courtney Martin, Brandon Martin, Justin Martin, Grace Martin, Jeremy Martin, Chad McCallie, Sarah Newport, Hannah Postell and Haley Postell; her great-grandchildren, Riley Fearing, Olivia McCallie, Kenley Martin and Weslyn Martin and many other family and friends who will mourn his passing.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
