IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Lee
Bowie, Jr.
August 28, 1946 – April 23, 2025
Richard Lee Bowie, Jr., of Harrison, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Hospice of the Hills House. He was 78 years old.
The son of Richard Lee Bowie, Sr. and Truby Lamax (Largen) Bowie was born on August 28, 1946 in Clovis, New Mexico.
Richard proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War. For his bravery and dedication, he was awarded both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After his military service, Richard went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career as an architect with the U.S. Forest Service, retiring in 2004. His work took him deep into the heart of America's national forests—an environment he cherished.
Outside of his professional life, Richard found joy in the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and working on his farm, where he cared for his horses and cattle. Above all, Richard was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. His warmth, strength, and quiet generosity will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Linda Bowie; one son and his wife, James and Erica Bowie; two grandsons, Owen and Aiden; one stepdaughter and her husband, Mandi and Jeff Prier and their three sons, Austin, Adam, and Andrew; and a host of other family and friends.
A memorial visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison. A procession to York Cemetery for a graveside service with military honors will follow the visitation.
