IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Owsley "Oz"
Diffey
August 9, 1934 – December 23, 2022
Owsley "Oz" Diffey age 88, of Harrison, Arkansas passed away peacefully, Friday, December 23, 2022, with his family at his side.
He was born August 9, 1934, the son of Henry Clay Diffey and Leitha (Lawrence) Diffey. He is the youngest of 9 children.
Oz's passion was his family. He was married to Billie Diffey for 59 years before her passing in 2015. They had a remarkable love story that led to a beautiful and close family. They have a daughter, Theresa Diffey-Cole and her husband, Pat Cole.
Oz's grandchildren, Chris Diffey (Brandi), and Hollie Pierce, have been like his own children and he was determined to spoil them. This family of five kept growing with spouses and he was especially proud when he was blessed with three great grandsons, Tryton Diffey, Sebastian Diffey, and Scout Teague. He has two bonus granddaughters, Dina Graham & Meredith Hawblitzel.
The stories Oz would tell were amazing and rich. He grew up in the depression era and he had to work hard as a young boy and help raise his siblings while his dad and elder brothers were in WW2. His work ethic never wavered throughout his life. He did any type of work to feed his family, from picking cotton to working in the swamps of Louisiana. He also drove a truck for Santa Fe, and worked for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas. He was most well-known for owning the Cottonwood Bowl with Billie for over 50 years. He and Billie loved that they could work side by side and be with each other. Their business was an extension of their home, and they made many wonderful lifelong friends.
Oz had several passions. One of his first was music. He enjoyed picking anything with strings. He loved to write his own songs and could often be found singing around the house or at the bowling alley. He loved a good country song or gospel hymn. He also enjoyed restoring his old Reo Antique Cars. Of course, he loved bowling too. He was quite the bowler himself, and he enjoyed helping others learn the game. The last few years he could be found reading the bible and spending his time in his rocking chair on the front porch, where he liked to sit and visit with all his kids and grandkids and tell stories.
Oz loved the Lord, and we know he is kissing Billie in Heaven. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Billie Diffey, his parents and 8 of his siblings, as well as many of his lifelong friends. What a reunion they must be having now!
He is survived by his daughter and grandkids, great grandkids and many other nieces, nephews and friends. This one of a kind man will be greatly missed by everyone.
