Niva Jean Gibson, 84, of Western Grove, Arkansas, took the hand of her Lord on Monday, May 23, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born January 1, 1938 in Vendor, Arkansas to Arvil and Della Mae (Bolin) Smith.  She lived in Newton County most of her life and traveled several years with her husband while he was in the US Navy.  She was a hard worker, spending many years at both Levi Strauss and Emerson Electric.

Jean was a faithful member of Evangel Assembly of God.  She loved the Lord and her church family.  Before her husband's passing, she loved to spend time with him fishing and hunting.  She enjoyed crocheting, making all of the Hillcrest Rehab employees a crochet blanket.  She also donated multiple crochet blankets to NARMC Hospice House. Niva Jean loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Carl Gibson in 2002; her parents; her step-father, Lawrence Eddings; three brothers, Dallas, Denver and Devoe Smith; two sisters, Birdie Iris and an infant, and multiple step-siblings.

Jean is survived by her sons, Neal Gibson and wife June, Dallas (Joebill) Gibson and Doug Gibson and wife Diana; two daughters, Sheila Hurd and Judy Christie and husband Kirk; brother, Cornelious Carl Smith; six grandchildren, Angela (Mark) Greenhaw, Keith (Nikki) Bell, Heather Bell, Brad (Casey) Gibson, Heath Hurd, and Lukas Gibson; eight great grandchildren, Alexis (Brent) Martin, Colby Wilkinson, Brooklyn Carter, Levi Bell, Havannah Greenhaw, Cole Gibson, Jackson Hurd, and Cara Gibson; one great great grandchild, Tinsley Martin; numerous step siblings, extended relatives and friends who loved her and will miss her.

Funeral will be at 2 PM, Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Evangel Assembly of God in Western Grove with Rev. Dorvin Ricketts officiating.  Burial will follow at Western Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 PM – 7 PM at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.

Pallbearers are Keith Bell, Heath Hurd, Brad Gibson, Mark Greenhaw, Colby Wilkinson and Brent Martin.

Honorary pallbearers are Lukas Gibson and her Evangel Assembly church family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Western Grove Cemetery Fund or Rock Haven Bible Camp.
