Obituary

Nancy Atkinson, age 69 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at her home.

The daughter of William and Lavone (Collins) Hall was born on July 7, 1946 in Clovis New Mexico.

She moved to Houston, Texas in 1967, where she worked in the oil & petrochemical industry 25 years. In 1990, she and her husband retired to Jasper, Arkansas where they renovated his family homestead, Little Switzerland. She was an industrious self-employed woman, owning and operating two businesses, Little Switzerland - Cabins In The Ozarks and Atkinson Tax Service.

She was the president of the Newton County Chamber of Commerce for 18 years and dedicated her efforts in promoting tourism in Newton County. She was instrumental in the development and success of the Buffalo River Elk Festival. She was a tremendous mother and friend. She had the most infectious laugh; she was a crazy fun loving, spirited woman; always dancing around; with the best sense of humor.

Nancy is survived by her spouse, Ross Atkinson; her son John Blackwell; and her daughter Michelle Oney, all of Jasper, Arkansas; her stepson Jason Atkinson of La Porte, Texas and her honorary daughter Chrisy Clifton of Crosby, Texas; Two sisters, Sarah Ward of Lubbock, Texas, and Patricia Wygle of New Caney, Texas; her sister in law, Shirley Hall of New Caney, Texas; six grandchildren, Clinton Oney, Bryan Blackwell, Bradley Blackwell, Brady Blackwell, Teia Holley and Ashton Tolbert; six great-grandchildren, Xander Watson, Lincoln Oney, Piper Oney, Evan Blackwell, Chad Holley and Caison Holley; her nephews Rick Ward, Ross Ward and Curtis Hall; and her niece Donna Ward.

She is preceded in death by her father William W. Hall; her mother Lavone (Collins) Hall; brother William T. (Tommy) Hall; her niece Vickie Collins; and her nephew William D. Hall.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm, Saturday July 9, at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper with Denny Waters officiating.
