Obituary

Myrtle Mae Scott went to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at the age of 96 with her daughter, Kay Jackson and husband, Russ Jackson by her side. She was born December 8, 1929 to Clyde and Bertha (Kaler) Peoples of Snowball, Arkansas.

Myrtle married Wayne Scott in October of 1945, and to this union five children were born: three daughters, Carolyn Sawyer of Lead Hill, Glena Hulsey of Alpena, and Kay Jackson of Malvern; and two sons, Bert Scott and Bobby Scott.

Myrtle spent most of her married life in Searcy County, in St. Joe, Arkansas, later living for a time in Harrison before spending her final days in Malvern, Arkansas.

She had a deep love for caring for others, especially the elderly, who in turn loved her dearly. Myrtle devoted much of her working life as a CNA in nursing homes, where her compassion and gentle spirit made a lasting impact. Above all, she cherished her family. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and nurses at Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Malvern for the kindness and care they showed Myrtle, and to Hospice of Malvern for their compassion and support during her final days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Bert and Bobby Scott; her grandson, Chris Jackson; her brother, Bill Peoples; her grandparents, Jake and Sarah Kaler, who raised her; and the father of her children, Wayne Scott.

Survivors include her three daughters, Carolyn Sawyer, Glenda Hulsey, and Kay Jackson; grandchildren, Kevin Hulsey and Treasha Bailey, both of Alpena, Darla Ames, of Worthington, MA, Shane Sawyer and Billie Jo Rock, both of Pittsfield, MA, David Sawyer, of Malvern, Richard Sawyer, of Lead Hill, Patrick Scott, of Malvern, Bobby Wayne Scott, of Malvern, Tonya Lackey, of Malvern, and Matthew Scott, of California; 26 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren, with two more on the way; and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Auman Cemetery in Alpena. Her family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Hope Burchfield, Becca Stephens, Heather Rawling, Kimberly Lea, Sadie Davis, Jennifer Mitchell, Alicia Harkins, Ashlynn Hill, Marshauna (Bri) Bates, Eddie Conklin, Sammy Hill, Mike McKinney, Elaina Williams, Jill Byrns, Jamie Bolling, and Brandy Rettig.
