Mike Walk, 79, of Theodosia, Missouri passed away Sunday December 16 , 2018 at Gainesville Health Care Center in Gainesville, Missouri.
The son of James Christian & Leota May (Connell) Walk. He was born on April 15 , 1939 in Chicago, Illinois.
Mike grew up in Chicago were life was not easy, but this taught him to work hard. He loved spending time with his grandparents on their farm in Missouri. When Mike was a young man he danced on Dick Clark's American Band Stand in Chicago. Mike joined the Marine Corp and was stationed at El Toro, California. There he met and married his first wife Eleanor. His son was born soon after. Upon leaving Marines he worked on a Holstein Dairy Farm, was a caretaker and worked for a roofing company in Sadila, MO. During this time his two daughters were born. He them moved back to California and became a mechanic for over 32 years. He was a good mechanic and was constantly learning new things. He moved to Springfield,MO and bought property in Lead Hill, AR and started slowly building a house there on weekends. During this time he traveled back to California to work for awhile and then moved to Arkansas and finished his house, while he worked as a mechanic in Harrison, Arkansas. Later he and a friend opened a tackle shop in Diamond City, Arkansas. After a few years he met Sharlene Davis. They moved out to California, where Mike took up mechanic work again. Eventually they moved back to Missouri and he did mechanic work before retiring. He worked at an apartment complex doing maintenance work and did part time work installing safety equipment for Home Health. Mike and Sharlene bought property by the lake in Theodosia, Missouri. They went away to Texas and California to make money to build on their retirement property. They were finally able to retire and move to lake property where Mike continued working on property, fish, trap shoot and sometimes helped to repaired boats at the local marina. After Mike developed Alzheimer's, he stayed at home as long as Sharlene was able to care for him. But the last 11 months of his life was spent at a nursing home where he was loved by all the girls and nurses aids. During this time Sharlene would go every other day and spend the day with him. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
He loved guns, trap shooting and reloading ammo. He enjoyed listening to Cajun, Big Band and County Music. Some of his favorite food was Gumbo, Chinese and sweet tea. He loved to go to air shows to see the new aircrafts. He tried gold mining, as this was a lifelong dream of his. He and Sharlene loved to go prospecting on their time off. He was passionate about fishing and loved making fishing lures. Mike was a loner at heart and he loved the Lord. He was raised in a Catholic Church and years later attended a non-denominational church in Protem, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary June (Walk) Loomis, and a daughter Patty (Walk) Medina.
He is survived by his wife and companion of over 32 years Sharlene (Barnes) Davis-Walk of the home. His son Glen of Hebron, NE, his daughter Penny (Walk) Collins of Mt. Home, AR, his step-children, Paulette Toliver (Orben) of Colorado, Jeff Morris of Harrison, AR, John Ramsey of Harrison, AR, Michelle Burleson (Johnny) of Lead Hill, AR and Eric Davis (Joy) of Marion, AR. His brothers Jimmy & wife Donna of Lincoln, MO, Gary & Peggy of Grain Valley, MO, and Lyn & friend Marilyn of Sedalia, MO. Six grandchildren…. grandsons Glenn, Jr., Jeremiah Medina, Kyle, Kameron and granddaughters Jessica Medina and Melissa Collins. 22 step-grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements are with Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison, Arkansas
