IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Gary
Wohlgemuth
July 24, 1939 – December 2, 2024
Michael Wohlgemuth, of Harrison, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024 at Hillcrest Home. He was 85 years old.
The son of Leonard and Betty (Whitten) Wohlgemuth was born on July 24, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Mike was the finest of good men and was one of a kind. He met the love of his life Sharon Beavers on a blind date at the age of 20 and they were married one year later. Within the next 3 1/2 years they had their three children Jill, Lance and Dedra. The love this family shares is undeniable and will always hold a strong bond. It all started because of Mike and Sharon's love for each other. They were side by side for 65 years holding each other's hands supporting each other and putting God first in their relationship. Mike and Sharon raised their children in church at First Church of God where he was very involved. He served on the board and was a Sunday Schoolteacher. First Church of God would later be named Crossroads, where he built the cabinets.
Mike was a master builder who began his career working in the woodworking shop and learned to read a ruler from his loving wife Sharon and in turn he taught her how to cook. He was a carpenter like Jesus. He made things with his hands that came from his heart. He blessed people with the gifts God gave him. He went on to build the most beautiful houses that became loving homes, which he held close to his heart. His work was a labor of love, and he took great pride in his craftsmanship. Mike was blessed with his youngest daughter, Dedra, working by his side for many years.
Mike was a prime example of what a father's love is. He poured his love into his dearly loved wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all his heart. He led by example of what loving others well looked like. He was always welcoming, accepting and a gentle teacher. He always had wise advice in a loving way but only spoke his advice when asked. He was a humble man that never asked for anything in return. He wanted the best for everyone else.
Mike had the sweetest spirit with the best hugs and some of his strong suits were his honesty, loyalty, humility, and humor. He was not only the sweetest man we knew but he also had the sweetest tooth. Mike would always sneak extra donuts, ice-cream, cookies, and Christmas fudge to his grandkids. Mike loved the simple things in life and enjoyed his family and nature. Mike loved river fishing, tent camping, swimming, playing football in the snow, hiking at lost valley, dirt bike riding, watching The 3 Stooges and Ace Ventura "Alrighty Then": all while wearing his cowboy boots. His signature look was a Hanes white t-shirt, blue jeans, and cowboy boots. Most of the time his white shirts had a food stain on them. He always said "Nothin is good unless it gets on your clothes". Mike had a love for all animals. He was gifted with a cat named Twage. Twage fell in love and followed Mike everywhere he went. Even animals wanted to follow him. He had a love for life and valued all his blessings. Everything he touched in life whether it was people, objects, or animals: they became better.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Wohlgemuth; and his mother, Betty Whitten Wohlgemuth.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Wohlgemuth; his daughter, Jill Williams (Ronnie); his son, Lance Wohlgemuth (Cara); his daughter, Dedra Lair (Roger Banning); six grandchildren, Suzette Wingate (Adam), Michael Lair, Brooke Pulliam (Cody), Jennifer Schuh (Spencer), Katherine Smith (Cole), and Emily Bartlett (Sutton); four great grandchildren, Katin and Macie Schuh, Gracey Pulliam, and Jackson Lair; his sister, Julia Zimmerman (Peter); and a host of family and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Crossroads Community Church. Pastor Johnny Walters will officiate. Burial will follow at Siver Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers include Dedra Lair, Adam Wingate, Michael Lair, Cody Pulliam, Spencer Schuh, Cole Smith, and Sutton Bartlett. Honorary Pallbearers include all the staff at Legacy Hospice and Hillcrest Home.
