Melvin Charles Sims, age 55 of Alpena, Arkansas departed this life September 24, 2012 at his home.
He was born June 26, 1957 in Harrison, Arkansas to Billie and Charlene (Allred) Sims.
He was a life long resident of the Alpena and Osage areas.
Melvin was a graduate of Alpena class of 1976. He was united in marriage to Julie Ann Lewis on December 21, 1991 at Western Grove Bible Church.
He was a devoted husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a dedicated employee of Tyson's of Green Forest for 28 years.
He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, who loved spending time with his grandson. For those who knew him he was described as a loving, kind, and gentle man.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Milton Sims and Marvin Sims; and brothers-in-law, Dean McAfee and Kenneth "Mouse" Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Julie of the home; his children, Joshua McCutcheon of the home and Cassie Walker of Gilbert, Arkansas; one grandson, Landen Walker; three brothers, Marlin Sims, Marty Sims and Jamey Sims all of Osage, Arkansas; mother and father-in-law, Claud and Retha Lewis of Pindall; and a host of nephews, nieces, other family, loved ones, and many friends.
Visitation was Thursday, September 27, 2012 with funeral services Friday, September 28, 2012, both at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.
Dennis Sisco officiated.
Burial followed in Alpena Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Walker, Shannon McAfee, Brandon McAfee, Eldon McAfee, Eric Sims, Doug Massengale, Jr Kolb.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy McCutcheon, Landen Walker, Claud Lewis, Dale Lewis, David Willis, and George Gatlin.
