Obituary

Specialist Matthew Kyle Reece, age 24, formerly of Jasper and Alpena, AR, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq.

The son of Preston B. Reece and Tammy (Phillips) Vanderwaal, was born February 10, 1983 in Harrison, AR.

Kyle enjoyed basketball, video games, fishing, and the outdoors.
He also enjoyed working with the men who fought beside him in his unit, while serving in the Army.
His true love was spending time with his family.

Kyle's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and the Parachutist's Badge.

His maternal grandfather, Norman Phillips and his paternal grandparents, Blaine and Merle Reece, preceded him in death.

Survivors are his wife, Chauntelle (Plumlee) Reece, currently of Oak Grove, KY; his children, Alyssa Reece, of Harrison, Teagen Reece, of Oak Grove, KY, and his unborn daughter, Cheyenne Jayden Reece.
He is also survived by his father, Preston Reece, of Alpena; his mother and step-father, Tammy and Doug Vanderwaal, of Parthenon; his brothers, Shane Reece and his wife, Kristah, of Harrison and Blue Reece, of Alpena; and his sister, Shaylyn Reece, of Pensacola, FL.

Visitation was Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison. Funeral service was Monday, December 10, 2007 at Alpena School Gym with Rev. Mike Thomas officiating.
Burial followed in Union Hill Cemetery at Parthenon with the U.S. Army Honor Guard serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were his best friend, Jeremy Dye, brothers, Shane Reece and his wife, Kristah and Blue Reece, sister, Shaylyn Reece, step-father, Doug Vanderwaal, friends, Nathan Smith, Kenny Mulenix, Brandon Simmons, Nathan Harris, Jeff Minor, and all of his teammates, other friends, and family whom loved him and whom he loved very much.

Kyle's Brothers-In-Arms from 1-504 PIR Charlie Company Red Devils, are also honorary pallbearers.

There has been an account set up at Community First Bank for his children's education.
