Starts at 11:00 am (Central time)
Mary Morris, of Western Grove, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, Arkansas. She was 78 years old. Born on October 2, 1947, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Mary lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and unwavering faith.
Mary’s journey was one of both hard work and heartfelt service. Among her many roles, she especially cherished the ten years she and her husband, Shannan, spent running the Wedding Chapel in Western Grove. During this time, Mary’s talents as a photographer flourished, capturing countless moments of joy for couples beginning their new lives together. Prior to settling in Arkansas, Mary was one of the few women cab drivers in New Orleans—a testament to her pioneering spirit and resilience.
In November 1998, Mary and Shannan made their home in Western Grove, Arkansas, marking the start of a cherished chapter in their lives. As a proud pastor’s wife, Mary stood faithfully by Shannan’s side as he led several area churches. They found deep spiritual fulfillment worshipping at Olvey Christian Church and Living Water Church, places where Mary’s love for the Lord and for her brothers and sisters in Christ was abundantly evident.
Mary was known for her compassion, mercy, and patience. Her generous heart and gentle nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her. In addition to her spiritual and community commitments, she delighted in hobbies that brought joy and comfort to others. She loved fishing and was a gifted photographer. Mary also had a remarkable talent for cooking and baking. Her pies, cakes, and breads were highly anticipated at every church function, where her food delighted many and brought people together in fellowship and warmth.
On April 24, 1993, Mary and Shannan were united in marriage, soon to have celebrated their 33rd anniversary. They were soulmates, and their love was genuine. It inspired many who witnessed their devotion. Mary passed away with Shannan by her side—a fitting farewell to a woman who gave so much love and care throughout her life.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Shannan Morris; her son, Darrell Armstrong III, and his wife, Krystal, of Jeanerette, Louisiana; and her grandsons, Pierson Armstrong and Elias Armstrong. She is also survived by her brother, J.W. Smith, and his wife, Vickie, of St. Rose, Louisiana; "distant relative", Maxwell J. Smith; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Willie Mae Moreau, and two brothers, Pierson John Smith and Charles Kelvin Smith.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Western Grove Cemetery under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison. Bro. Jim Hatfield will officiate.
There is no visitation.
Mary Morris leaves behind a world made brighter by her kindness, her faith, and her boundless love—a legacy that will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
