IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Catherine
Lutz
August 28, 1924 – December 5, 2020
Mary Catherine Lutz of Harrison, 96, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Newton County Nursing Home after a long battle with illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Holden Lutz and her son, Joseph Lutz. She leaves behind her two sons, James Lutz and Philip Lutz and his wife Patti; six grandchildren, Tammy Rechtin, Robert (Bob) Lutz, Cindi Falanga, Bryan Lutz, Paul Lutz, and Jennifer Simmons; and 13 great-grandchildren Sarah Blatt, Michael Rechtin, Anna Rechtin, Riley Lutz, Holden Lutz, Justin Badalamento, Katie Austin, Conner Badalamento, Raleigh Lutz, Hudson Lutz, Sawyer Lutz, Everly Lutz and Penelope Lutz.
Mary was born and raised in Elmore County, Alabama, the daughter of Houston and Emily Thornton. After graduating from high school, Mary moved to Florida to work in a jewelry store. It was in Tallahassee where she first met Holden, an army medic, on a blind date. Holden and Mary were married two months later and had over 53 years together at the time of Holden's death. Throughout Holden's many ventures, Mary followed and supported him, including starting a contracting company in New Jersey to farming on a remote Arkansas mountain.
Being a dedicated homemaker and farm wife, Mary enjoyed being with her family above everything else. She showed her love by giving care and serving her family. Family Sunday lunch was her favorite tradition. Mary was always ready for any visitor that might drop by. No one left her house without their belly full, some sweet tea, homemade cake or pie, and a small gift ranging from some garden vegetables, homemade canned goods to flowers from the garden Holden kept for her to show his love.
Due to Covid, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Arrangements under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison. On-line condolences may be left at www.coffmanfh.com .
We will miss her simple acts of love and kindness.
