Marshall M. Metzgar, age 77 of Marble Falls, Arkansas passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The son of Maurice and Betty (Baker) Metzgar was born November 15, 1939 in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Marshall graduated East Stroudsburg High School in 1957 and after several years at Penn State, took a job with the US Border Patrol. This job moved him from the west to east cost for 31 years when he retired as Chief of the Southwest Sector out of Miami, Florida. He moved to Arkansas in 1996, working for JB Hunt for 4 years then he reentered law enforcement as a bailiff for Boone County Sheriff's Office, a Bail bondsman for Jim Campbell and finally the Newton County Sheriff's office as Chief Deputy until retirement. He then spent 6 more years working part time as a Bailiff with Newton County until his passing.
He attended First Baptist Church in Jasper and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He loved to watch westerns and was an avid reader. He collected guns and was a passionate Yankee baseball fan.
Marshall was a loving husband, father and friend. He was a good, kind man that would do anything for anyone. He was a brother to those he served with in law enforcement, and touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Tony Ardillo and numerous aunts and uncles.
Marshall is survived by his wife and best friend of 31 years, Margaret "Maggie" Metzgar of the home; two daughters, Kelly Malone (Ken) of Fallbrook, CA, and Jamie Weintraub of Tampa, FL; three brothers, Allen Metzgar (Greg) of Denver, CO, Bill Metzgar (Elaine) of Stroudsburg, PA and Michael Metzgar of Stroudsburg, PA; one sister, Susie Ardillo of Stroudsburg, PA; three grandchildren, Austin, Miranda and Sandra; and a host of other relatives and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 8, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Jasper with Pastor David Faught officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers are Sheriff Keith Slape and the Deputies of Newton County Sheriff's Office.
