Margarette E. Smith, age 101 passed away April 21, 2014. She was born May 26, 1912 to Louis W. and Mary Pearl Hoyer Schroth of Champagne, Ill.
She and her husband, Bruce, lived in Virginia, until retiring to Arkansas in 1969. During those years, she was a stay at home mom who taught piano lessons.
She was a former member of the American Guild of Organists and was chosen as an honorary member of the First Presbyterian Women in Heber Springs, AR.
She was married to H. Bruce Smith from June 20, 1930, until he passed away in 1994. She lived on Eden Isley, outside of Heber Springs, and was very involved with the Presbytherian Church and loved playing golf with ladies at the Red Apple Golf Course. In 2001 she relocated to Harrison to be close to her son, Mark. At the age of 91 she had the prettiest flowers in her yard and made several friends in the Indian Hills subdivision. She was always cheerful and loved telling about her family and their accomplishments. She loved to read, so Mark would bring her 4-5 books a week from the library, until she was no longer able to see the print. She was a small, kind and lovely lady and enjoyed life until the very end.
She is survived by her two sons, Jack Bruce Smith (Jean) of Alexandria, VA and Mark Cooper Smith (Sharon) of Harrison, AR. She is also survived by 2 grandsons, Jake Smith (Melissa) of Springfield, MO and Zach Smith of Harrison, AR; 2 granddaughters, Jenny Hisam (Thor) of Chantilly, VA and Julie Lasure (Ken) of Oak Hill, VA; 1 step-granddaughter, Megan Batson (Triston) of Hindsville, AR; 10 great-grandchildren and another great-grandson due in May.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Boone County LIbrary in Harrison, AR or the Presbyterian Church of Heber Springs, AR.
Cremation and arrangements are being handled by Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.
There will be a memorial service held at a later date.
