Dr. Bert Daniels, age 98 of Harrison, Arkansas passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 in Harrison.
He was born in a sod house in the windy sand hills of Nebraska. There are many things that his daughter and family love about him, but one of the many things is his determination to keep going, keep encouraging others and reaching out and helping others.
Years go by and after a time at Bible College, he became pastor of a church in the Northwest at the age of 17, living in the church basement. During that time, the story is told that the church had a fire and he lost everything, almost. God miraculously spared his Bible.
As the years went by, Dr. Bert Daniels was preaching the Gospel of God's saving grace. He pastored all over the United States, New Zealand, and Hawaii. The Church of the Nazarene appointed him as District Superintendent in British Columbia Canada and Alaska. These were his "glory days". He loved the challenges of new frontiers, building churches and appointing pastors. He flew with many fearless Alaskan bush pilots to get from one church in Nome, Alaska to another in the wilds of Alaska or Yukon territories.
All of his family considered and listened to his wisdom. We all knew he would always have a word of encouragement and praise. When any of us needed wise counsel of assurance, we were loved. He always had time to listen. He was a good shepherd to his many pastors' families, as he served as District Superintendent over Alaska, Yukon, British Columbia Canada, Northwest Oklahoma district, New Zealand, Hawaii and Pacific Northwest districts for the denomination of the Church of the Nazarene.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 68 years, Lola Marie (Feldman) Daniels; his brother, Harold Daniels and a sister, Ruthie Daniels.
He is survived by his wife, Merreta Daniels of Olympia, Washington; his daughter, Lyn Hunter and husband T.J. of Harrison, Arkansas; 3 grandchildren, Todd Hunter and wife Chris, Shae Crook and Steele Hunter and wife Michelle; 10 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and many other family and friends who will mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 21, 2018 at 2:30 pm at the Crossroads Community Church with Rev. Larry Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in White Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be open Wednesday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison. Pallbearers include Todd Hunter, Steele Hunter, Ty Kester, Dakota Hunter, Lance Hunter and Rhett Bramley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ron Hutchcraft Ministries, PO Box 400, Harrison, AR 72602.
