Obituary

Louis Hefley, of Harrison, AR passed away quietly at hs home Thursday, February 22, 2007, at the age of 72.

The son of Jesse and Clara (Ewing) Hefley, was born October 16, 1934 at Mt. Judea, AR.

Louis graduated from Harrison High School in 1952. He delivered papers for Harrison Daily Times on the Harrison square in 1946 and 1947. During high school, working in the DE Program, he was employed by Croom's, Rowland's Department Stores and Heuer Shoe Store, under owner David Heuer. In 1950, he started working for Walter's Department Store, under owners T.L. Jackson and O.Z. Bradley, and was named manager of the shoe department in 1955. After the flood of 1961, Walter's, then owned by Bob Reynolds and Ben Henley, leased the shoe department to a company in Cincinnati and then later it was leased to Springfield Shoe Company. His wife, Skip, daughter, Lisa, and son, Mike all worked with him until the department closed in 1984, giving Louis 34 years of shoe service. He had worked for West Department Store for five years and then was a Security supervisor for White Rogers, Inc.,until his eyesight failed him. Louis was a member of the Arkansas National Guard, enjoyed gardening, playing music, and loved spending time with his grandkids. He was also a member of Northside Church of Christ.

His parents, step-mother, Clydie Hefley, and his sister, Mildred, all preceded him in death.

On December 28, 1958, he married Helen "Skip" (Kinder) Hefley, who survives him, along with his daughter, Lisa Vanderburg and her husband, Dee of Moberly, MO; son, Mike Hefley and wife, Davina of Harrison; grandchildren, Kinder Shamhart and her husband, Andy of Bartlesville, OK, Sky Vanderburg and Colby Vanderburg, both of Moberly, MO, Mikayla Hefley and Jake Hefley, both of Harrison; and his brothers, Tom Hefley of Florida and Jerry Hefley of Oklahoma.

Visitation was Sunday, February 25 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison. Service was Monday at the funeral home chapel with Phil Powers and Steve Powers officiating. Burial was in Mt. Judea Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Keener, Frank Mangrum, Dale Thorne, Tony Mangrum, Tom Hefley, and Cub Scott. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Cole, David Kernodle, Mike Schmitz, Hugh Ashley, Jack Howell, Stanley Ewing, Jerry Hefley, Gene Morris, Bob Milam, Joe Milam, Dick Poe, Phillip Hefley, Dee Vanderburg, Andy Shamhart, Jack Kondora, Sam Alexander, Jim Gaskill, Colby Vanderburg, L. W. Greer, Sky Vanderburg, and Legacy Hospice Staff.
