Obituary

Lois Brown passed away peacefully in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 21, 2014.

Lois Henrietta Pierce was born in Lewis, Iowa to Albert and Alma (Kosak) Pierce on August 13, 1922, the sixth of seven children.

When she was seven the family moved to Bellefonte, Arkansas, where she later graduated from Bellefonte High School. After working at several retail establishments in the Harrison area, she entered nurses' training at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas.

On December 16th, 1944, she married Ensign C. H. Brown, Jr., a Navy pilot, and traveled with him to his various duty stations in the United States. Following the end of WWII, Lois and C.H. returned to Harrison, where C.H. entered business with his father and uncle at the Lone Oak Dairy. She lived most of her life on the farm until it was sold in 2012.

She was a serving member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harrison, serving as an Elder and on the Session. Lois lived a life of service to others. In addition to helping her family with the farm, she also served as Boone County Treasurer for several terms, as Justice of the Peace, as secretary for the Harrison Junior High School principal, on the board of the North Arkansas Regional Hospital, and on the board for the Northwest District of the Arkansas Region of National Resource Conservation Service. She was active in Eastern Star, various organizations within the First Presbyterian Church of Harrison, the PTAs and Boy Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, all four of her brothers, and one sister.

She is survived by her sister, Anna Marsh of Mason City, Iowa; by her three sons, Lynn (Barb) of Lenexa, Kansas, Fred (Candy) of Alton, Illinois, and Robert (Linda) of Omaha, Arkansas; her three grandchildren, Sean, Kate and Andy Brown; and two great-grandchildren: Aisling and Amelia Brown.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Capps Road in Harrison at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 6, 2014 with Rev. Jane Huffstetler and Rev. DC Adams officiating.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations in Lois' name, be made to the following charities: Wounded Warriors, American Cancer Society, Alzheimers Foundation of America, or the First Presbyterian Church of Harrison Building Fund.
