Lloyd Fredrick Emerson, age 88 of Ponca, Arkansas died Friday, February 10, 2012 in Ponca.
He was born November 20, 1923 in Centralia, Missouri to Elmer and Pauline (Sumpter) Emerson.
He graduated in 1949 from College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas, after being in WWII. He married Mary Josephine in 1945. He fought in the Korean War then stayed in the military, retiring from the Navy in 1964. Mary Jo and Lloyd moved to Ponca, Arkansas in 1975 fulfilling a dream as he had always loved the Ozarks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Emerson; and a sister, Maureen Emerson Heibel.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo of the Home; four children, Susan Emerson of Jasper, Arkansas, Daniel Emerson and wife Kim of Kirkwood, Missouri, Janet Emerson of St. Louis, Missouri and Robert Emerson and wife Brenda Sides of Kirkwood, Missouri; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
There was no visitation.
Funeral service was Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Coffman Funeral Home in Jasper with Joe Sain officiating. Burial followed in Beechwood Cemetery at Boxley, Arkansas. Family and friends were pallbearers.
