Obituary

In her 74 years, Linda Hoppis appreciated all the little things life had to offer.

Whether it was playing the piano or singing hymns, she taught her children to love music. A talented pianist, Linda pounded out "Running Bear" and "Malaguena" much to her children's delight on the black upright piano found in every living room of every house she and her family lived in. She played accompaniment to numerous student musicians at Bergman High School and shared her gift of music by playing piano during the worship services at Ozark Baptist Church. Fifth Sunday sing-alongs were her favorite.

Not only did she love music, but she loved her family. Her love could best be heard at sporting events, cheering on her children or grandchildren, or pointing out to the officials what she thought was a bad call. To the end, she and Harroll would sit 8-10 seats apart because she loved so loudly. She was fiercely devoted and loved unconditionally, without a doubt.

Linda turned many a-page written by Nora Roberts, Nicholas Sparks or other authors of books found at garage sales or passed along by other avid readers. She kept her mind sharp by solving puzzles quickly on Wheel of Fortune or by completing crossword puzzles, cryptograms and word searches. Following graduation from Raytown High School in 1966, she briefly attended Central Missouri State University in Warrenburg, MO. After a lengthy hiatus from college, she completed her associate degree in business from North Arkansas College. She was so proud of her accomplishment. We celebrated her perseverance and determination.

While Linda worked various shifts at Levi's or Emerson, made the rounds as a nurse's aide at the hospital or sold timeshares, the position she was most proud of was mother. At the age of 21, she welcomed the opportunity when she married Harroll, father of Debbie, Mike, Kendra and Konnie, on May 2, 1970. In 1973, the family welcomed Karla into the fold, with Justin and Mathew, following four years later, respectively. On May 2, 2022, Linda and Harroll celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary, a testament to their love and commitment to each other and their family. The family continued to grow, and Linda continued to celebrate each birth, each holiday, each sporting event or school function with a wide grin and a full heart.

Her seven children brought her much joy, the screams of 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren echoing down the halls or floating across the front yard of their home on Salles Drive, where she and Harroll lived for 43 years. Linda showered her loved ones with wet kisses and comforting hugs, or with homemade taco salads in edible bowls she shaped in the Fry Daddy. She crocheted afghans in the colors of the Kansas City Chiefs, the Har-Ber Wildcats, or those she knew were your favorites. When a daughter-in-law gave her a book on how to crochet animals, Linda set her fingers to work to make animals for everyone, even for the students at her daughter's school. Harroll picked out the kangaroo for his own. Her gift of diamond art, needlework, or handmade Barbie clothes were simple tokens of her love.

The family's gift to others is to honor her feisty personality, her determined spirit, and her willingness to love and to serve others. On May 21, 2022, Linda passed into the arms of Jesus with a peaceful spirit and a contented soul, knowing that her time on this earth was over and that she would be joining her son Mike, her brother Roland, and her parents, Helen and Walter Toevs, who preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband: Harroll Hoppis of Harrison; her children: Debbie Coleman (husband Joe) of Bergman, Kendra Burris of Harrison, Konnie Miller (husband Richard) of Lebanon, Tenn., Karla Sprague (husband Steve Jackson) of Springdale, Justin (wife Nita) of Locust Grove, Okla., and Mathew (wife Jessica) of Conway.

While her family will miss her deeply, they know one day they will meet again in that mansion over the hilltop, where the streets are paved in gold, in that sweet by and by.
