Obituary

Lila Ottena (Rumford) Keener, 86, died July 27, 2016, at Hillcrest Home, Harrison, Arkansas. She was born July 5, 1930, west of Big Bow, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Everett and Cassie Odell (Moore) Rumford. The family moved to Hanston, Kansas, in 1936 and to Dodge City, Kansas, in 1941. She attended country schools and graduated from high school and junior college in Dodge City.

In 1953, she was married to John E. Keener, Jr. Two children blessed the union: John Edward (Ed) Keener, III, and Charmaine Sue (Keener) Phillips. While living in Jasper County, Missouri, she continued her education at Missouri Southern State College and was employed as a keypunch operator for the Carthage Marble Corporation; Secretary to the Superintendent and the Jasper School Board; and the Lamar school system. She served as an EMT for the Jasper area ambulance service and was a Jasper County 4-H leader for many years.

In 1989, she moved to Harrison, Arkansas, where she worked for Ozark Unlimited Resources Cooperative and Myers Rental Properties before retiring. She was a member of Grace Christian Center, Harrison, which was pastored by her son-in-law, Rev. Tim Phillips.

She enjoyed reading and movies, and was very creative and witty with exceptionally beautiful handwriting.

Lila is survived by a son, Ed Keener of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and a daughter, Charmaine and husband Tim Phillips of Harrison, Arkansas; grandchildren: Austin Phillips and wife Lindsay of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Reid Phillips and wife Sara of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Erik Keener and wife Shanda of Bella Vista Arkansas; Mark Phillips and wife Whitney of Harrison, Arkansas; Megan Keener and Eric Howard of Rogers; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two older brothers, Harold and Orland, and two older sisters, Eunice and Agnes.

Visitation will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 7, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 pm at Grace City Church, 700 Cottonwood Road, Harrison, Arkansas. Interment at Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore, Kansas, will be at a later date.
