Leona N. Mohlenhoff, age 92 of Harrison, AR, formerly of Diamond City, AR, passed away on the Lord's Day, Sunday, October 21, 2007 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.
The daughter of Henry and Lillian M. (Mattson) Nelson, was born April 15, 1915 in Rio, Illinois.
Leona is a graduate of Knox College, Galesburg, IL. She taught swimming at the YWCA in Galesburg. On May 31, 1941 she married Frederick Mohlenhoff at the First Lutheran Church in Galesburg. Fred worked for A.L. Mechling Barge Line, and Leona moved with her husband as his job required. In 1976 Fred retired and they moved to Diamond City. Fred died in 1997 and Lee moved to the Hilltop Nursing Center on August 22, 2002. On December 15, 2004 she became a resident at Hillcrest Home. Fred and Lee had no children.
Her parents also preceded her in death.
Leona and her late husband were charter members at Lord of the Lake Lutheran Church in Diamond City where they helped establish the congregation.
There was a festival memorial service in memory of Leona, Thursday, November 1, 2007 (All Saint's Day) at the Lord of the Lake Lutheran Church. Pastor Don Riechers will officiate.
