IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lena Dell
Cothran
April 4, 1937 – December 8, 2017
Lena Dell (Swafford) Cothran, 80 of Bruno, Arkansas, was called home to her Savior on December 8th, 2017.
She was born on April 4th, 1937 at Anderson Flat, Arkansas to Earnest Swafford and Ruth (Anderson) Swafford.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;- Proverbs 31:28.
To her family and friends, Lena Dell Cothran was the quintessence Proverbs 31 woman, a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She relished pampering her family with delectable dishes, baking homemade rolls and plating out at least a seven course meal at each family gathering, topped with one of her delicious cream or pecan pies or a coconut cake. She provided an ample spread of mouth-watering dishes to most community and church gatherings.
She rose at the crack of dawn, preparing food and laboring until dusk, often working long and hard hours alongside her husband and two sons on their dairy farm and beef farm. Each spring she plotted a magnificent garden that produced enough to feed all of her family and many of her neighbors. She stitched her granddaughter's dresses and quilted blankets for each of her children and grandchildren.
Christmas was by far her favorite time of year. She planned for the holiday most of the year, shopping and selecting special gifts for each family member, wrapping each and every present, and watching with delight the faces of the ones she loved as they were once again overwhelmed by her thoughtfulness.
She was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and demonstrated her faith in her steadfast service and attendance at Everton Baptist Church.
Second to her faith, Lena treasured her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren above anything on earth. It was always a special day for her and them when they visited. She enjoyed attending auctions and shopping for antiques with her niece and husband. She would search for toys the grandchildren would love and filled two back rooms of her house with them as the "play" rooms.
She loved and admired her sister Nelda and her sister-in-law Genevieve and cherished their time talking together.
Anderson Flat Old Church Schoolhouse was a place dear to her heart. For many years she spearheaded and organized fundraisers to enable the renovation and expansion of the Anderson Flat Old Schoolhouse and Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Leon, Everett and Jerry Swafford.
Lena is survived by her husband of 58 years Morris, her two sons and their wives, Wade and Alison Cothran of Springdale and Ron and Beverly Cothran of Everton, three grandsons, Byron Cothran, Canon Cothran and Cray Cothran; three granddaughters, Heather Cothran Knapp, Chelsey Cothran Franz, and Carlyn Cothran; and four great grandsons, Jacob, Josh, Westin and Easton; and her sister, Nelda Smith of KY and many other relatives and friends who loved her and will miss her.
Services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Anderson Flat Community Building with Byron Cothran officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Flat Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Swafford, Joe Swafford, Rick Swafford, Timmy Joe Swafford, Jeff Swafford and James Swafford.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Sunday, December 10th at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.
To honor her love for her ancestry and community, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Anderson Flat School House Fund, 3086 MC 5013, Everton, AR, 72633.
