Lela Faye Baker passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at the age of 91. Lela was born September 15, 1930 in Tomahawk, Arkansas to parents, James David and Blanche (Still) Baker. After graduation from St. Joe High School, Lela moved to Tulas, Oklahoma, where she began a career as a switchboard operator. After moving back to Arkansas to assist her parent, Lela married Riley Noel Baker, Jr. She spent much of her life as a housewife and assisted in the operation of their dairy farm. She and Noel, Jr., later became managers of another long-time family business, the Gilbert General Store and Canoe Rental. Lela also served as Gilbert postmistress.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Riley Noel Baker III (Butch) and Christopher Alan Baker; and her brother, J.D. Baker.
Lela is survived by her son, Jess Baker and daughter, Vicki White; granddaughters, Jessica Parton and husband Matt and Jamie McAfee and husband Brandon; grandsons, Taylor White, Jeremy Baker and wife Kerrie and Jarred Morgan; and great grandsons, Riley McAfee, Derek Yonkers and wife Jessica, and Cole, Mason and Canon Morgan; and great granddaughters, Courtney Holder and husband, Nathan, Kasey and Ashlyn Baker; and daughter-in-law, Char Baker, along with many cousins and other extended family members.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Tommie and Leonard Baker, Ronald Baker, Debbie Taylor and Mary Stewart for the devotion in assisting and caring for Lela for many years and Highland Court Rehabilitation and Nursing Home and Hospice of the Hills for their excellent care during her illness.
A private family burial will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Hills, PO Box 1927, Harrison, AR, 72602-1927.
