Laura C. Owens, age 95 of Jasper, Arkansas died peacefully at her home in Jasper on Saturday, September 27, 2008. The daughter of the late Arthur and Clara (Daebel) Zenke was born August 4, 1913 in Blue Island, Illinois.

She lived and worked in Chicago as an Office Manager until 1978, when she and her husband, Hugh, moved to their home overlooking her beloved view of Big Creek Valley in Newton County, Arkansas.

Hugh preceded her in death in January 1998.

Laura was active in the Jasper United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She was very active in her EHC club, Roadrunners, serving as Secretary and Treasurer for several years. The Newton County Fair was always a special project where she and her good friend, Frances Penfold, always helped with fair entries. She supported the Newton County Library and Newton County Special Services plus many, many other charities. She also helped many individuals who were in need throughout the years.

Laura is survived by her devoted caregivers and many close friends who will sorely miss her.

There will be a memorial service for Laura and her husband, Hugh, 10 A.M. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Jasper United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Jasper United Methodist Church, Newton County Library, Newton County Special Services, or to the charity choice.

Cremation and arrangements are being handled by Coffman Funeral home in Jasper.
